2021 musical recordings

i haven't listened to the cassette because i don't have them yet, but i trust trouble in mind to do it well and only approve them if they sound right. i really like the medium because i make albums with the idea that they should be listened to straight through and since i can't put this out as an LP, cassette is the next best medium to ensure that the listener takes the journey.

first Blectum From Blechdom album in 19 years!

The Sleep EP from this year sounds incredible with this sub. It sounds like the kick drum is in my room! The air coming out of this thing is so punchy, goddamn.

new isaiah rashad album is truly excellent

I'm listening to the new album by The Notwist and it's pretty great imho

I've never heard anyone whose voice spontaneously morphs gender like this.

I've no idea how else to articulate that thought.

Liars are still putting out music in 2021 even though Liars is basically Angus at this point.

The Apple Drop is good though and I never thought when they were labeled dance punk with their quirky debut that I’d still be listening to them 10 albums in.

Ikue Mori, Brian Marsella, Sae Hashimoto - Archipelago X

This is pretty amazing. It’s like IDM but with an earthy, organic jazz element that is very pleasing, for my ears at least. Very fun and playful, however, it is sorta challenging music, maybe for fans of Chicago underground duo, matmos, tortoise, or similar leaning artists.

So i guess i still get excited when an overstuffed Kanye album drops on a Sunday.
This "moon" song is really pretty and I like the one that has a Lauryn Hill sample.

I haven’t listened to a full Kanye album in years and I won’t be starting soon. This dude brought out serial abuser and shitty musician Marilyn Manson for his listening party the other day. Al Jorganson is somewhere out there not doin shit but Kayne brings out MM… Why do we keep this guy relevant? His creativity ended years ago, he’s just been ripping other peoples style for at least a decade.

... because I enjoy his music and mostly think of him as a musician?

I agree with most of this. But I also have a soft spot for people struggling with mental illness. I know this shouldn’t excuse his behavior… plenty of people dealing with similar afflictions don’t act like trash bags all the time. But there’s the element of the personal at work here too. This guy, for all his glaring flaws and inexcusable actions, has also given us so much brilliant art that’s made my own life a whole lot more enjoyable. So I find myself rooting for him.

Sure, during that period/album he was ripping Dutch E Germ, Shabazz Palaces, and Arca. His whole gospel thing is cherry picked from the chance the rapper and Donnie trumpet. If you want something creative on the mic, try any Noname (fka Noname Gypsy) album.
