Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have been on a steady diet of this for the last couple of weeks. I'll make a longer post some other time. For now, I hope you guys are all aware of this:
Crazy how I went from being entertained by Kanye being back on Twitter to where I am now. Meaning, after posting a pic wearing a MAGA hat with a white dude making the alt-right OK salute it will be hard for me to want to listen to his music ever again.
Kanye's politics have always been horrible, but this is just another level. I'm thinking about blocking his Twitter just to "abstain" from his "content".
This bullshit is making me want to actively boycott him and his legacy.
The conclusion of this article very artfully sums up the current state of online news: http://www.complex.com/music/2018/05/young-thug-responds-to-speculations-about-his-sexuality
In the grand scheme of things, the sexuality or expression of Thugger, or anyone is ultimately nobody's business.
...so the author wrote an article about it. Writers write about things that are "nobody's business".

I listened to this song like a million times between '94 and '96. The opening rap verse in particular caught my attention, and I got kind of obsessed with it, making a point to memorize it. Over the years it would pop in my head and I'd recite it and maybe sing a bit of the T-Boz part, I'd wonder who that guy was and if he ever did anything else, and then I'd forget about it for another few months. This would happen but since I have CrazySexyCool on cassette I'm not sure I've actually listened to it this century. About a month ago I found it at the library and though what the hell, it'd be cool to have "Waterfalls" on my phone. So I was out back drinking wine listening to it when this song finally comes on. And about 15 seconds in I stop. I pick up the phone, and hold the speaker to my ear. And as it turns out, over 20 years later, this song was almost definitely my first introduction to Andre Benjamin.
I feel like this story is probably dumb and possibly old news to some of you, but it blew my damn mind.
Reading about the troubles that the rapper 6ix9ine has recently experienced & I feel like there is a trend where heavily face tattooed bros are having a rough time.
6ix9ine is a clown. I don't know why these artists have to play games with their lives just to make a dollar. Of course drama and "authenticity" sells, but there are less risky ways to go about it than the way him and guys like XXXTentacion do it.
Since XXX died I've been enjoying "SAD!" and this:
some of my friends from back home have also become huge BROCKHAMPTON stans over the past year and i'm finally getting into it. i really enjoy this track:
Quick primer for those that don't know: the dude in the orange is Kevin Abstract who formed the band by posting on a Kanye West message board. they frame themselves as a "boy band" and have non-singer creatives in the group as well, including producers, photographers, videographers, etc. though they don't go for the same kind of shock value lyrics, the most obvious comparison is Odd Future: some suburban kids who love fucking around and making music and seemingly just want to get famous.
their musical style is pretty hodgepodge. minimalist-ish production with some guitar/rock sounds, sing songy choruses, some grittiness. at it's best it is catchy and inventive. lyrically it's sensitive and confessional, but also traffics in some young male angst tropes (though not as violently as Odd Future did). some of the productions are very reminiscent of early Tyler the Creator with "big chords" and boom-bap rhythms.
after a series of mixtapes and albums released online that were really popular with teens, they were set for a huge summer tour and going into the stratosphere. however, that was derailed because one of the original members was apparently a giant asshole and left a wake of emotional and sexual abuse everywhere he went. a bunch of women came forward accusing him and he was kicked out of the group. they laid low for a few months to let the PR smooth over and have come back, done Fallon, and started the tour. they have some random Scottish dude named "Bearface" in the group who plays guitar and sings mournful ass songs. i guess since they kicked the one dude out they're giving more prominence to Bearface, lol.
they're hit or miss, but they're gonna be popular.
