he is a legitimate recording artist that is not huge. Macklemore is much much more popular. in fact, Macklemore was voted The Source's MAN OF THE YEAR in their latest issue.

I didn't know where to talk about this so I'll drop this here real quick. Literally every year I become more and more repulsed by the Grammy's. I trick myself into thinking that I actually can dig a lot of "popular music" as the years go on and then I see this fucking charade.

I'm going to get really into punk aesthetics this year. I'm going to start by exploring some of the post-punk influences on Downwards/Sandwell District/etc. It's really refreshing shit to be digging. Also, Kurt Cobain is super cool.

What did you think of Ghettoville, WP64 and others? I'm having trouble deciding if I actually enjoy the experience of listening to it.

I think I like the album in concept; the production captures a very interesting perception of distance from the music itself, almost as though it is being played through the walls of my apartment. But this distance makes it feel inherently inaccessible to some degree.

What say you all on the subject?

the eerie ambient/industrial/modern classical is my favourite face of O(E). well for home listening anyway.

after a few weeks of walking to and from work in the rain listening to this, your description really resonated, except the 'distance' seemed a perfect match for my hood-up, tunnel-visioned forays through the sodden murky metropolis.

however, the box set arrived last week and some has unearthed layers of artefacts and detritus that have given me a much more corporeal relationship with the album.

still haven't got round to spinning the Hazyville discs yet which is just about the highest praise i can give the new one.

New Moodymann is a typical Kenny Dixon jr deep house journey with heavy nods Prince.

The Actress is ok. The music does have a 'going off the rails' feel and I suppose that's cool to some people but it just isn't as intriguing as RIP and previous albums. Do you guys think the pressure to consistently outdo himself is what led to the retirement?

I've not really gone back to this album since the first few listens. I don't like it, the ambiance is cold but uninteresting to me and might be a great soundtrack to when I feel as though the entire world has abandoned me or something, but my life isn't actually all that bad so I I'll stick with his earlier releases for now.

pitchfork just gave Sun Kil Moon's latest a goddamn 9.2 which makes me feel strange.

it's almost too achingly beautiful to listen to Koz at this point

yeah the narrative around benji is going to revolve around the lyrics which is completely reasonable -- there must be people who are fundamentally opposed to something like "Dogs" - but otherwise this is a wonderfully varied lp. really enjoying it.
