i still download off the bird from time to time but mostly get everything from what.cd and google music instantly uploads it to the "cloud"

havent used spotify in a long time, ads or spend money, no thanks.

Also honestly if I don't have to put even the slightest amount of effort into finding new music than a lot of incentive for even bothering is effectively gone.

Received my Songs: Ohia Journey On box set. It is beautifully put together and sounds wonderful. This is what physical music should be.

Well this is pretty great. I can't think of a single thing from this guy that I don't like.

I love it all except the first track on Returnal cause it doesn't jive with the rest of the album. Basically the only things I listen to now These Days is OPN and that Jacques Green remix of Autre Ne Veut.

I don't think that I've listened to any 2014 records, this year. Unprecedented. Balls deep in way too much other stuff.

And don't get me wrong, I like OPN but the way that all the vaporwave kids are desperate to suck his dick is funny. And reading so much of his Twitter when Billy Corgan was streaming his synth dabblings just made him come across like a condescending asshole who's taking his role as gatekeeper of all post-"Altered Zones" music a little too seriously. None of this has anything to do with music and you should probably neg this post.

I suppose that I haven't enjoyed the last few albums from him as much as everything on Rifts, which will never be as popular as something like Slanted + Enchanted or Discovery, but already seems to be approaching the kind of influential "landmark" status of those albums.

I find most of Jac Green's original material pretty boring myself. I don't think he is actually a good songwriter but his production work on the Play By Play and the track he did with Koreless quite smooth and easy to float along with for 7-9 minutes.

With regards to OPN, I guess I can understand how the guy's public life might interfere with your perception of his music. I don't actually know much about the guy at all beyond having read a few brief interviews with him so I cannot say with certainty that I wouldn't react the same way, but I don't think I would. What I find charming about his music I guess is that it has an experimental quality to it, it does not follow any standard signatures of a style, and (as much vaporware) is recontexualizing the sounds of the past and making the listener re-evaluate these tones/presets/etc. At the same time, if I don't feel like snobbing out, I cant sit back and enjoy his music from a "these chords and bleeps and bloops make me feel good" perspective. Without analyzing the sound and guessing at what it might be "saying" or alluding to, I still like what I hear.

But I do see your perspective. I have designers and clothing labels that I cannot wear because of who else wears them. When I say it back it sounds stupid to me, but I'll continue to do as such.
