Skimming some of the above posts is there actually a backlash against OPN?

How come?
I ask because I sort of feel the same way and I don't know how much of it has to do with his music and how much as to do with other things at play.
he comes off in interviews and such as a bit of a shitfuck but, it's really just a matter of none of his stuff has really connected with me. R+7 was neat/impressive but I think on the whole it's just way to brainy, virtuosic, purposefully difficult, etc. granted I've only given returnal and replica cursory listens.

Re: 2014 Musical Recordings
Mark Kozelek quietly put up a super-limited double vinyl set of Perils from the Sea on caldo verde last night, sold out nearly immediately. Which is extremely frustrating, as I'd been keeping fairly close tabs on that.
not 2014, but if anyone's holding their breath for Benji on wax, prepare to wait a year and then be crushed with disappointment.

Just listened to the first few tracks on Jacques Greene's soundcloud and it all struck me as completely generic & forgettable. Dude will have a rewarding career in the advertising industry.

Is he just living off whatever he made on Almost Famous and for telling Cruise to fix his fucking face in Vanilla Sky? Because making your product extremely hard to get when you already don't have a huge audience seems dumb.

I really don't know what the fuck his game is. Apparently it was 500 copies. Seems that he makes his living on touring, despite three records worth of evidence about how much he despises the practice. Caldo Verde is his label, so maybe he simply doesn't give a fuck and presses as many copies as will be convenient for him to move? I don't know.
looking forward to get fucking price gouged on discogs for this thing.

I don't think so, but I guess I can only speak for myself. I just don't really "get" it. Maybe I'm too old.

I like his music quite a bit. Had no idea there was a shitty persona attached to it until this thread though. Now I just know to avoid his non-musical output.

Re: 2014 Musical Recordings
the Rifts material and Returnal are my faves from him. I'd love him to do more stuff in the Memory Vague vein.
the new Moon B and Gesloten Cirkel releases are doing it for me today. in pleasingly different ways.

Listened to the stream of this on NPR, some of the worst music from one of the most annoying voices in music right now. Absolutely the worst thing I've heard in at least a year, easily likely longer.

Re: 2014 Musical Recordings
I am sort of astonished about how much I'm enjoying the Brian Eno & Karl Hyde record. NPR's streaming it http://www.npr.org/2014/04/27/306161810/first-listen-brian-eno-karl-hyde-someday-world
really great stuff, filled with earworms and there are moments that recall enos best 70s pop moments which is wild.
bruegel have you heard the Ninos du Brasil LP?

I've always assumed that, in Cpoots av, Karl was making a mini me by putting mini shades on his clenched fist. Only just scrutinised it closely enough to realise its some sort of bear.

Heard one song off that Eno-Hyde thing and I like it a lot. Def be checking the rest of it.
Have only heard Replica, like it a ton. Definitely a tourist with that kind of thing but it's really quite accessible I feel.

Don't know if anyone on this board listens to Bill Orcutt anymore, but his new record is maybe his best to date.

Re: 2014 Musical Recordings
it's no masterpiece or anything, but I can see myself returning to it plenty over the next few months, which is all you can really ask for. really enjoy "Man Wakes Up"
speaking of NPR First Listen -- right now I'm checking the new Swans record which is up there as of today. seems pretty good

FREE FORTY-TRACK DOWNLOAD AT BANDCAMP
I hope to find you all well, here is the first Email I have sent in over two years. Right now I am busy preparing a number of new works
Including in time new albums by The Caretaker, Leyland Kirby and The Stranger as History Always Favours The Winners kicks back into action.
Many of you have been in touch about the availability of physical copies of the last Caretaker albums. In the future I hope to make
these albums, including 'An empty bliss beyond this World', available again. Keep tuned for news about this in the coming months.
On this very day today it's my 40th Birthday, and with this in mind as a gift you will find a free download release available for the next forty-days only via Bandcamp.
Of course it is possible to buy this audio gift from me as well.
The choice is yours. Remember that all the cash I do receive goes into upgrading equipment this side. In the last two-years due to a few problems I have been unable to perform live, so really I only survive on sales and your direct support of works.
If you would like to pay for it I would suggest the price of a
40th birthday whisky would be a perfect symbol of support.
In total this release is over three hours long. It is not a fixed
release and should be used sparingly in your own favourite
track combinations.
It can be used to uplift on the low days, to gain strength
and clear the mind. Each track combines the same elements
piano, digital strings and synthesized choir. There are dark
twists and light passages. It leads you somewhere
whilst going nowhere.
Like life itself wrong notes may be hit, there maybe the odd distortion, melodies drift and we hope to gain strength
from the introspective nature of the work.
Feel free to share news of this work with friends, family and lovers.
We cover no new ground. We wear our hearts on our sleeves.
Providing truth at all times.
Wishing you all the best from Krakow where I raise
the glass of good spirit.
Until the next time, be lucky.
Leyland Kirby.
