Oh, holy shit... I didn't even realize this was a thing. Flower Boy was a seriously incredible and important album for me and I've listened to it as much or more than any album released in these past few years.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
Tyler's music since Wolf sounds so unfocused and aimless to me.
Starting in on this album, that's all I can think about again. His last four albums all sound slightly different, but they overwhelm me with how pointless they area. And people love it!
I feel like I'm stuck on the outside looking in because his music was so great to me when I was 19.

That all being said, I think this is my favorite of his since the first one and there's a lot to like here! Similar frustrating Tyler things as usual (unnecessary vocal distortion, bad mixing, some downright ugly sounds), but nice.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
IGOR seems pretty focused to me and from a cohesive mood standpoint is easily his most accomplished. I like the pacing of it too. Goes from a series of bangers to start before mellowing out a bit.
He does a lot in 40 minutes. Something Vince Staples & Tyler are doing astonishingly well. Packing a lot into a short album.

Easily one of my favorites of the year and maybe my favorite thing Steve Lacy has ever done:
This is the best song Thundercat never wrote. Whole album is very good!

Musically it creates the appearance of a cohesive mood by using similar sounds and textures, but for me it's manic as fuck at it's core. Still, I get why people call it cohesive and wouldn't disagree if I'm being a bit more objective.
It's funny you mention Vince because he's another artist who I think has cool ideas, but doesn't deliver when it comes to his music. I like a lot of songs from both, but haven't been a fan of their albums for a long time.
I've been listening to a good amount of IGOR and it's grabbed me. "New Magic Wand" is my absolute favorite, but Earfquake, Running Out of Time, A Boy is a murder weapon, Gone Gone / Thank You, and Are We Still Friends? are all very enjoyable.
In particular, I think the mania of Tyler is that he can do something like Earfquake AND Gone Gone / Thank You, which are both brilliant, but working in very different styles.

I love the Weyes Blood album. I try not to overplay it but I actually miss it if I go a couple days without hearing it.

Hey guys whats up
Basically say all I listen to these days is I am Easy To Find, with little splashes of Weyes Blood, mostly just Movies.
Also good from 2019: Cate Le Bon - Daylight Matters, FKA Twigs - Cellophane
I liked that new Chemical Brothers sometimes too

Hey Nick,
Lots and lots of ups and downs these days, had a spark yesterday of "I wonder what the LOPP buds are up to these days", glad to see everything still chooglin' away over here.

They tell me that my man Raphael Saadiq is putting out a new record, this year. This is good news.
EDIT: There's a song and everything.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
Thanks for recommending the Weyes Blood guys. It’s a lovely album. Is it too much to say it reminds me at once of Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Joan Collins, Fiona Apple and Xiu Xiu? A very accomplished effort. I love it

Two weeks ago, I finally listened to this Charli XCX woman. Last week, she announced a forthcoming new record. Good timing for me, as this is very much my shit.

Dude I love her. Her Sucker album is pretty much 201X female pop Andrew WK and it is wonderful. Can’t wait to hear whatever the fuck she’s up to right now.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
Yeah, that's correct. I literally described it to a friend as Andrew WK/late Weezer + trashy French electroclash bullshit. Her current music is still a bit of the latter, very little of the former, and a healthy dose of that Teen Mom album that was really, really, really bad (in really fascinating ways). The big difference is that these shits isn't bad; rather, it is really great.

Re: 2019 musical recordings
Here are some recent, 2019 favs I think you guys might enjoy:
-Tech house master John Tejada's new Performance Review single is incredible. The bassline on "Calibration" is one of my favorite things of the year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7nPXi_UNh4
-Benny Sings is a Dutch piano pop maestro and his new album City Pop is excellent. This is my favorite song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ss0s60aoK6M
-Dan Mangan is a Canadian songwriter with a husky voice that I was introduced to by the Comedy Bang Bang podcast. A great song from his latest album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_Tc5-DWz4g
-DJ Premier hooked up with Buffalo, NY's finest for this mega banger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKKewhmBhAo
-(Sandy) Alex G is a favorite of one of my friends. I feel like no one's every heard of him, but after this song and potentially a new album, he might find a breakout: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcO-NPtj5BI
-I don't understand how El Guincho of Sound Opinions Message Board fame (for 2008's excellent Alegranza has resurfaced as a producer for a Spanish pop singer, but it's happened. He produced her excellent album last year. She also has two great singles out right now--
The hottest song in the world, somehow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7bfOZek9t4
But I think I like this one better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLFUhty8EF4

I'd also be very curious to hear anyone's opinion on this shit:
I saw some whinging about it on Twitter so I checked it out. Much more listenable/funny than I thought it would be!
