Thought Dump : Music Edition

I can't decide if I should be embarrassed by the fact that I still listen to Deftones pretty regularly. Part of me thinks that "White Pony" and "Saturday Night Wrist" are incredible and creative exemplars of a successful fusion of post-hardcore/ art metal and shoegaze. Then sometimes I worry that I'm, like, listening to Incubus or something.

Nothing wrong with Deftones, or Incubus for that matter.

Crazy timing on this post. My kid is now into Jane’s because he heard a song one morning on the Sirius channel Ozzy’s Boneyard, LOL. It was former murder weapons n Roses band member Duff McKagen’s show and my kid heard “Been Caught Stealing” and was like “What is this?!?” in a good way.

I showed him the Nothings Shocking album cover and he was even more sold. But yea, solid rock albums!

It is funny now how John Lennon has gone from being the coolest Beatle 25 years ago to people realising that Paul was into as much weird music and so on and wasn't a pain in the way John was, as evident in Get Back.

This is the only song of theirs I've heard, I don't know what to do with the fact that I don't hate it. It scratches an itch, I guess. Should I seek that relief elsewhere?

Watched a long form doc on Paul on YouTube, it was great. S/t, RAM and a band on the run fucking rule.

Anyone else bored with hearing new genres names but then hearing the music and going, “sounds like plain ol’ shoegaze to me, but sure, call it Black-Gaze….” Psychedelic ambient? Psybient, nevermind that a lot of ambient is psychedelic without trying to be, but you’re right, psybient. There are others but it’s even boring typing them out, I’ll stop there.

Pretty sure thats an Arcrade Fires lyric on the new album. Its pretty bad! But also yeah there are too many Genres.

The lead singer of Alt-J has a very punchable face.

Also, I hate the band Wet Leg and wanted to write some big long rant about everything I hate about their self titled album but I realize there's a good chance its just because I'm old and the facade isn't amusing to someone who's seen shit like this enough times before.

It really feels like they dropped off the face of the earth right after that. Yeah I guess they put out an album this year but I think that really stripped off the entire facade of what made most people like them.
