People with skin in the game rightfully realized that the "inevitable" nostalgic revival for this stuff was actually never going to happen, that there's not going to be some newfound appreciation for this era and that they were sitting on a depreciating asset that needed to be cashed in before it was totally worthless.
Harsh realm but that's the world now.
