tried that julie byrne album earlier in the week and I couldn't shake the feeling it was just a pale grouper imitation, but I was at work and not at all in the right state of mind for that kind of thing.

cannot overstate how much I am digging this New Bums LP, though.

despite being a ridiculously sad song, the music to "Pray for Newtown" is some headbanger folk shit. "Richard Ramirez Died Today Of Natural Causes" evokes a similar, danceable feeling.

    love this shit.

I want to like the War on Drugs. their first album was nice, but even on that one, by the end of it I was a bit tired of his one trick. tom petty fan rides motorik rhythms with some shoegaze to taste, rinse and repeat. slave ambient was a snooze and I haven't even been able to bring myself to get all the way through their new single Sad

once the whole things pops up on spotify I'll give it a real shot but that's my grouchy take on The War on Drugs. one of my favorite working band names, too. pity.

    within the past 24 hours:

perc - the power and the glory
    untold - black light spiral
    kassem mosse - workshop 19
donato dozzy & nuel - the aquaplano sessions (a reissue, but nevertheless)
francis harris - minutes of sleep

funny thats the order in which i plan to hear those new albums

maybe add in lucy somewhere too

i've only heard new perc so far and it's great. will have to give it more time, if i manage to untangle myself from the classics for a moment

Schoolboy Q has released another album better than Kendrick Lamar's instant classic.

Still not a St. Vincent fan. This is the type of shit WXRT throws into the mix so they hang onto the mid-to-late 30s crowd that is ready to give up and listen to top 40 or boring NPR reports.

three songs into this St. Vincent album it's probably the most exciting guitarish thing i've heard in a year

she makes music that is beautiful, artful and danceable all at once while being creatively forward-thinking

This new Beck Long Player is really enjoyable. If you like Nick Drake, Sea Change, really warm and layered production and Laurel Canyon 70's sensibilities, there's gonna be a lot to love for you in these tunes.

do you not find the opening line of "Birth in Reverse" relatable?

Jasper - I can't relate to that line at all. This album - like all her albums - is boring as fuck and if she were 30% less attractive no one would be talking about her outside the old Lilith Fair crowd.

I like it more than Sea Change after one disjointed listen. Heard it on a good turntable through a variety of expensive speakers at a mom & pop stereo store a couple days ago. It's hard to believe places like that still exist. I went in for bookshelf/wall speakers and was told the entire history of quadraphonic / 5.1 / 6.1 / 7.1 sound.

Beck was really good on SNL, although those aren't exactly Saturday night jams. Would have preferred some Midnite Vultures insanity.

Had a bunch of bad personal shit going on this week and am glad to be getting out of town for several days. Listened to Benji a couple times and it clicked on a different level. Heard lyrics differently or maybe even for the first time.

The album "worked" as a whole better than previous listens too. I'm in a cab on my way to the hotel and keep thinking of what Koz is writing about and how I wish I were that good at something.

This is getting WP-esque so I'll stop.
