So I guess a new Avalanches album comes out this year, which I'm trying very hard to keep my expectations low 4 but it feels to much of an event to not be a bit excited. Perhaps everyone else has cooled on the group but I listened to Since I Left U a few times over the past month or two and good lord its still so super good. Consider me pumped.

The band fka Viet Cong now called Preoccupations put a new single on Spotify today. Sounds good but only reminded me how much I loved that VC album so I've listened to it 3 times already today.

Anybody heard that Laraaji/Sun Araw thing? I haven't. Curious about whether or not it's worth my time.

Swans' The Glowing Man is a fitting end to this iteration of the band. They've put out 4 albums but I really C this as the 3rd installment of a trilogy with The Seer and To Be Kind.

Moments of relentless noise balanced with calmer, quite serene sounds. I actually think "The Glowing Man" might be the strongest of the near half hour songs that they've recorded. The allegations against Gira made it hard 4 me to get past that and just absorb the music. This is probably the first time I didn't pre-order a recent release of theirs.

But since My Father they've released like 20 hours of music in album and live recordings. The two times I've seen this version of the band R basically two of the greatest live experiences of my life. This is another fantastic album by a band I enjoy listening to.

I'm really enjoying the Mitski - Puberty 2 album, it feels like the first straightforward "indie rock" album that I've enjoyed 4 some time. Reminds me of Weezer meets Mirah & The Microphones or something. Crunchy and cheap, almost obvious melodies that veer off a little just enough to make them interesting again.

This got worse by the second half. A couple good songs in the front half I'll listen to again.

The front half is definitely better, but I enjoy the whole thing. Veruca Salt - a band I'm not super keen on - is the best "sounds like" I could come up w/.

The new Gojira is fantastic, dark and groovy and brooding. Parts of it remind me a little bit of "Sleeping Giant"-era Mastodon, or Crack the Skye. Very, very strong record.

Because it's still fun 4 me to do shit like this and we R halfway through the year:

Yeah, not much enjoying this release as much as I would have hoped.

Yeesh this Blood Oranges album the Internet is loving. Sounds like some dude doing a bad Prince impersonation in between trying to make the sleepiest R & B recorded in a cheap home studio.
